Katy is the founder of Cornish Pigment, where she creates artist-grade pigment and watercolour paint out of the Cornish earth. While she has taken a pause from Cornish Pigment, she is now exploring the use of her pigments in her own artwork. The process is very grounding, and Katy now paints and prints whenever inspiration strikes, often drawing inspiration from home, memories, and mythology.

'Cats, cats, and more cats. Not all cats, of course, but I have been drawing, printing, and painting a lot of them. As a child, I spent hours drawing and painting tigers to the point where I could recreate them from memory. I also remember pouring over big, heavy books filled with animal pictures and drawing them all. Sometimes, I regret choosing a Fine Art degree over Illustration, as it took a while to shake the mindset that art must have a deeper meaning beyond just being fun. That changed when I created my lino print ‘Scaredy Cat’ last year; I started to enjoy the process again.

I am now focused on exploring my love and joy for animals while getting inspiration from palaeolithic cave art and medieval bestiary illustrations!'
