Graduating from UWE in 2004 with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, she began her career in mental health across Devon and Cornwall, developing a fascination with how we translate our internal worlds for ourselves and others - a fascination that continues to shape her work today.

Craving a more creative and connected life after becoming a single parent at the head of a neurodivergent household, Emily turned to craft, folklore and mudlarking. Living by happenstance on an old Victorian bottle dump where the River Exe meets the sea, daily walks filled her pockets with tidal discoveries: salt-crusted Bovril and Marmite jars, apothecary bottles, milk glass, broken pottery, clay pipes and the forgotten traces of Victorian life. Her magpie mind found stories in these fragments, in the patterns pressed into glass and ceramic, and in the folklore woven through the Exe’s banks.

Drawn to making with her hands as a way to quieten the noise of her internal dialogue, Emily became captivated by the possibility of creating something precious from almost nothing. She founded Emme Wears to transform the river’s discarded gifts into reimagined glass beads rich with symbolism, storytelling and folklore.

Each necklace is designed to be handled as much as worn.
